Spyros holds a bachelors degree in architectural engineering, two masters degrees in structural engineering and the environmental design of buildings, and a PhD in advanced lighting systems and energy in buildings. He is currently a Senior Lecturer at the University of Liverpool in London, having lectured previously at Greenwich School of Architecture and the Welsh School of Architecture in Cardiff. He has consulted on numerous projects in the field of building environmental performance around the world with major firms (Fosters, HOK, SOM, Frank Ghery, Atkins, Autodesk) and local governments.

His areas of interest and expertise are in the fields of environmental design of buildings, passive design, daylighting and building performance modelling using specialised software and architectural technology as well as virtual and mixed reality for visualisation and communication. These are also areas that he has taught extensively in the UK and abroad, at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, as well as on invited lectures and seminars in leading universities and institutions such as the Architectural Association and IAAC among many others. Areas of active research include the application of BIM and VR/AR in the environmental design process, the use of BIM for managing buildings, Sustainable Islands and building performance simulation.
